Yadkin

Now this was a long time ago but it is still very interesting.  On July 15 in the morning I just woke and I was just going to start getting dressed when it sounded like wind was blowing on my door. But then I heard someone say Becky. I was like what on earth then I said "What is it" then I heard my dad say "There is a baby donkey"! I ran out of there like a lightning bolt I SO EXCITED! It was raining all night and still raining that morning so the baby was all wet. When I got out there, there he was with his tongue sticking out I thought but then I dad said something was wrong with his lip.

After a while of trying to figure it out what was wrong with his mouth my mom e-mailed that picture above to our friend that has lots of horses to see if she knew. She thought it might have been a PROLAPSED lip.  Meaning, some kind of trauma during birth caused the lip to swell up. Then her and her husband came that evening to see if she was right and sure enough she was. She had seen this when cows give birth and prolapse.  She had also seen an old farmer treat this condition by rubbing the prolapsed area with sugar to get the swelling down, then putting the body back in the right places.
So we got her some sugar and warm water (The water was needed because his lip was dry) and she rubbed it on and put his lip back into place and it was almost all healed. His swelling still needed to go down a little more but it would happen soon enough.
In this picture you can see that it is still kind of swelled but....

His lip is fine now!

Our donkay Molly who had him was pregnant with him for 13 1/2 mounths! We knew she was pregnant but we weren't sure when she was going to have the baby, so we were very happy she finally had him!
It took a long time to name him but my brothers and me decided to name him Yadkin after the river in North Carolina that Daniel Boone lived near for a little while.
Yadkin was our first just gray donkey. All of the others were different colours so it was cool to finally have a just gray baby donkey! I am trying to teach him tricks but I don't think he knows any yet.

Our New Addition

Yesterday morning my mom went to go check on our broody hen (That is when a chicken is sitting on eggs to hatch them) and when she looked at the ground there was a dead chick! Where the mama chicken is sitting it is kind of high so if a chick fell out it wouldn't be able to climb back up. And that is what happened to that little chick. So when my brother Jacob picked it up to throw it away it's wing moved. Then we put it back with the mama hen so that she can get it warm again but the mama hen tried to eat it! So my mom got the chick quickly out of there and now we are raising the chick in the house. Here are some pictures of us playing with the chick.

Crockett

Last night we were outside and Jacob and me were just walking when I looked behind us and there was a dog. At first we thought it looked like a coyote but once she dried up (It was really raining yesterday) she looked like some mixed breed of dog. We are going to keep her because Jacob won't let her go. We named her Crockett after Davy Crockett. I know it sounds like a boys name but Crockett is a last name so it can be for a girl or boy.

Here is Jacob and Crockett. Jacob wrapped her in the blanket.

Here is Crockett laying down.

Go West Young Donkey

We had to sell Little Joe because our other donkeys are in heat and he might try to hurt the babies. Well the other night we get a phone call from BC and she said she is going to buy him. This morning she picked him up. (it actually wasn't her it was a lady that picks up and delivers horses, donkeys and mules) She came around 7:30 a.m.
Here are the pictures of him leaving.

Little Joe wasn't so sure of going in the trailer

He finally decided to go in

He finally made it in and was happy because he got hay

And he is off to BC

Today is also Father's Day! So Happy Father's Day to all dads and may God bless you. My dad sure got spoiled today.

I made the card, (which I think is not in the picture) the chokecherry jelly and I bought the chocolate.

We also went to church at the old folk's home today. It went really good but we were late so we couldn't help set up. But we did help gather the song books at the end. Next time I think we will be early, maybe.

Now Jennie Had Her Baby!

Yesterday my mom and I were in the barn. She was feeding the chickens and I was playing with Jemima. I stood up and looked in the other stall and there was Jenny laying down. I thought that's weird that she is laying down this time of the day in the barn. But when I looked closer she was just finishing giving birth! I was speechless when I saw it. But finally I maneged to say "Oh my goodness. There is a baby!" My mom looked up from what she was doing and said "What?!" The baby's back feet were just coming out when we saw her. It is a girl so we will name her Polly after Polly Crockett. Warning: There is pictures of the end of the birth.

There is Jennie cleaning Polly while Polly is coming out

There is Polly just about out

Here she is standing up for the first time

And here is a collage I did of her on PicMonkey

Jemima

I can't believe that Jemima is already a week old yesterday! It seems like just yesterday Ben ran in yelling that someone had a baby. Well here are some pictures of her from yesterday.

Here is a side view of her

And now you can kind of see her face.(Sorry that the chicken bum is in the picture)

Molly Had A Baby!

Yesterday me and my mom were watching a show when my brother Ben ran in yelling. We were getting mad that he was yelling but he was trying to tell us that one of our miniature donkeys had a baby! When we understanded him we jumped off of our seats and ran to the barn. Sure enough there was a black little big eared baby girl donkey. It was our donkey Molly who had her. We named the baby Jemima after Jemima Boone.

Here is Jemima and our rooster. Don't they look like they are the same size?

These picture are backwards but whatever. Here is Jemima standing up for the first time!

Chicken Coop Fort/House

Yesterday my dad built stairs to the top of our chicken coop. (It doesn't have any chickens in it.) So me and my brothers are pretending that it is the Boone's house. I'm Rebecca Boone, Jacob is Daniel Boone, Ben is Mingo and my mom is Jemima Boone. Here are some pics of it.

Here are the stairs up to it. (We were going to put that kitchen in it put it didn't fit through the hole up there.)

And here is the inside of it, and there is Daniel.

Planting

Today me, my mom and my brothers planted some of our seeds. My mom has been wanting to start planting forever, so she finally did it today. It is a good day for it to because it is so cold and gray outside. I planted the broccoli and cauliflower.

There is us planting

And there is us planting again. But there you can see my raccoon hat just like Fess Parker's from the show Daniel Boone or Davy Crockett
